What No One Tells You About Construction and Contractors

Welcome to my blog. My name is Belinda, and I recently built a house from the ground-up with my husband. Through building, we worked with a range of construction crews, contractors and specialists. I learned a lot along the way, but the experience would have been easier if I had known about some things up front. In this blog, I am going to help others who are starting the process of constructing a new home. In this blog, I plan to share all the things no one ever tells you about construction and contractors. I'm writing this from my custom home, and I couldn't be happier. Trust me, the whole process is worth it. Thanks for reading and happy building!

Types of Window Treatments for a Sun Room

If you have a sun room, you might be in need of window treatments. These will add to the décor of the room, while also controlling how much sunlight or privacy you get. Here are some different types of window treatments to consider.

Plantation Shutters

A wonderful window treatment to consider for your sunroom is plantation shutters. These will allow you to control just how much privacy you get when you want it. You can keep them tightly closed for optimal privacy, which also allows you to keep all sunlight out. This is ideal when you are having private time with family, or when the sun is a little too hot and bright for your comfort level. When purchasing plantation shutters, make sure you avoid hardwood and go for faux wood or treated wood. This will still look like real wood, but doesn't have the risk of mildew, rot, or other issues you might have with wood when it is located outdoors or gets a lot of direct sunlight.

Curtains

An easy, budget-friendly window treatment for sunrooms is to have curtains. This gives you a wide range of style options, from sewing your own custom curtains, to choosing solid-colour or patterned curtains. You can also mix and match different colours and styles for a truly unique look in the outdoor space. Curtains are great because they are inexpensive and easy to hang. All you need are some curtain rods and tie-backs, and you're good to go. These are ideal for larger windows in sunrooms when blinds or shutters would cost a little too much to cover them completely.

Blinds

You can also choose from a variety of different blinds for your sunroom. The types of windows you have will often determine which blinds will work best. For example, if you have smaller windows in the room, you can choose horizontal blinds in aluminum, vinyl, wood, or faux wood styles. These are best for smaller windows and can be custom-made to fit the space. However, if you have larger windows or sliding glass doors in the sunroom, you might want to go with vertical blinds. They are longer and will cover more space without costing too much money. Like with the shutters, be careful about using real hardwood for the blinds as the outdoor climate might negatively affect them. For outdoor blinds, go with something that is easy to install and maintain, as well as keep clean.
