What No One Tells You About Construction and Contractors

Welcome to my blog. My name is Belinda, and I recently built a house from the ground-up with my husband. Through building, we worked with a range of construction crews, contractors and specialists. I learned a lot along the way, but the experience would have been easier if I had known about some things up front. In this blog, I am going to help others who are starting the process of constructing a new home. In this blog, I plan to share all the things no one ever tells you about construction and contractors. I'm writing this from my custom home, and I couldn't be happier. Trust me, the whole process is worth it. Thanks for reading and happy building!

Waste Considerations before Opting For Skip Bin Hire

Whether it is a kitchen remodel, landscaping project or home renovation, all these end up producing a significant amount of waste. The most convenient way of eliminating this waste from your property in a timely manner is through skip bin hire. However, just because skip bins are used primarily for waste management does not mean that you simply hire the first one that you come across. There are few waste considerations to keep in mind to ensure that you are making the most of skip hire.

Consider the size of waste you are disposing

Skip bins come in an array of sizes. However, a common mistake that newbies make is simply considering the amount of weight that can be contained in the skip bins rather than the size of the components that they will be getting rid of. For instance, if it is landscaping work that is being undertaken on your property, then medium sized bins may be sufficient to eliminate soil, leaves, grass and the like. On the other hand, if it is kitchen renovation, you may need large sized bins, which can contain bigger components such as kitchen cabinets, wood panels and more. These items may not be heavy, but they will not be able to be contained in a small skip bin. Therefore, it would be prudent to assess the size of the particular waste that will require elimination before making a choice on the skip bins that would be best suited for your needs.

Consider the type of waste you will be eliminating

Another crucial factor to keep in mind when it comes to skip bin hire would be the type of waste that will need to be disposed. Skip companies will generally eliminate a range of waste materials from the home, but they will need you to ensure that hazardous waste materials are not mixed with regular waste. This does not mean that they will not eliminate hazardous waste. Instead, you will require specialized skips for this as well as professional handling of the waste. This is to ensure that the waste does not pose any health risks to anybody in close proximity to the disposal site. Some of the hazardous waste materials that would require special consideration include:

  • Asbestos
  • Chemical waste materials
  • Oil waste materials such as engine oil
  • Hydrocarbons
  • Lubricants

It should be noted that due to the sensitive nature of these types of waste materials, the skip hire company might require specialized gear for this waste elimination. This could incur additional costs as compared to regular waste disposal.
